The lower level footings have now been poured. Next week the walls of the lower level will be poured as well as the upper level floor and the connecting link to the heritage church building. All of this will happen before the Christmas break which will set the stage for the start of building framing the first week of January. Then the new building will begin to take shape! Merry Christmas to the Demik folks and to all of you!
The church is in its final resting place. Once the grout dries, the beams can be removed. (Dec 7)
McCulloch has removed all of their equipment including the dollies, the jacks, and the beams. They are finished their work. The footings for the Community Centre floor have been formed.(Dec 10)
We are now beginning the construction of our new St Luke Community Centre. We have one big great hole in the ground. Soon, Demik will be setting up the forms in the hole to pour the concrete for the foundation for the lower level and the floor for the upper level. Following that, they will begin to build the frame for the new building. During this process, the McCulloch Moving Company will place the Sanctuary on its new foundation by lowering the jacks a few inches, the equipment will be removed, the basement will be cleared of material, and the rear foundation wall will be poured.
Also, we are getting information and cost estimates for lifts and kitchen equipment and working with community partners and neighbours to determine how our new building will be used for children, youth, seniors, and others. We are continuing our process of determining needs in our community and how we can work together with others to meet those needs.
Our Building Project
St. Luke's Anglican church, a landmark at Hwy #5 at Palermo, was built in 1845 by William Peacock. Our development project will see the moving of the existing heritage Church building to a different location on the site with a brand new foundation. A new Parish Community Centre will be connected to the church providing much needed space for new programs and community events.
